Chapter 8 - Morning

Samuel found that it was a struggle to fall asleep that night. Between what Lena had done and the fact that he was in an unfamiliar place made it hard for his mind to shut off.

He never really dealt with girls before because he didn\'t think there was much of a point with him already being arranged to marry someone. It would only lead to problems for him and whoever he decided to date. Plus, he also tried his best to avoid anything he thought might make it harder on his parents.

That was something he realized he might want to explain to Lena if she thought he was boring and didn\'t have much to offer. Maybe it would help her warm up to him if she knew the lengths HW and his family had gone to in order to make sure nothing happened to him before he met her.

It also couldn\'t hurt to talk with her father if the next day he was around and still in as approachable mood as he was in today.

After considering these things, Samuel was finally able to fall asleep, but morning ended up coming far too quickly for him.

He knew the sun wasn\'t rising yet when he woke up and due to the unfamiliar feeling of the sheets and smells around him, he momentarily panicked over where he was at until he remembered what happened the day before. Sighing he rolled over. He really didn\'t want to get up, but he had a feeling if he didn\'t he would end up being late for breakfast and whatever else he would be required to do today.

He needed to take a shower before he did anything however as he was too mentally exhausted to take one the night before.

He hadn\'t explored every inch of the bathroom the night before, but he somehow wasn\'t surprised that like everything else, it felt overdone and too lavish for him.

What did surprise him however was the fact that everything stocked in the bathroom were brands or scents that he used back at his parents house. He supposed it shouldn\'t have been that much of a shock, but since it was something that he didn\'t remember Clive asking about or his parents saying anything about Zane asking things about him such as that, it made him uncomfortable as to how they got the information.

He tried not to over think on things too much as he still had the whole day ahead of him and he was certain there would a lot he\'d have to deal with which would be better to save his energy for than a small thing such as this.

He was quick about everything he needed to do as he didn\'t want to waste time or have anyone waiting on him since he was still uncertain how the schedule worked in this house. He made sure though that his appearance was good so he didn\'t leave a bad impression.

"Well look who decided to join us. Morning Sammy-boy." Lena greeted as he came into the dining room. Samuel wasn\'t sure he liked the nickname but it was preferable to being called a chickadee. Sammy was fine, but adding boy? There was only a few months age difference between.

"Morning, sorry if I\'m late." he replied, trying to greet her politely.

"Not terribly late. Although while you\'re here, it\'s your job to make sure I have breakfast each day." He was surprised to hear this.

"I\'m supposed to make breakfast?" he asked, moving so that he was standing in front of where she was sitting in the chair. She looked at him with a raised eyebrow but showed no other signs of emotion on her face.

"I think you heard me the first time. I believe you can also cook."

"I can, but that isn\'t quite the problem. I thought that it would be-" Lena cut him off before he finished.

"You thought it would be my job because I\'m the woman?" he could hear the sneer her voice. He\'d obviously assumed wrong. "It seems you still have a lot to learn little Chickadee. Considering the fact that if I choose to marry you, I will be taking over everything that my father is doing right now, I most certainly will not have time to be cooking." She paused, a small teasing smirk on her face "Instead, I\'ll be leaving that up to you as my house husband to make sure that everything is properly taken care of." Samuel frowned at this. It certainly wasn\'t what he had been expecting. In fact, his presumption was that they had someone who would be taking care of cooking so neither one would have to worry about it."

"I guess that makes sense. I just wasn\'t expecting it since none of what\'s expected here during this time has been explained to me."

"Tsk! I don\'t think it should be hard to take things as they come up since it isn\'t unreasonable?" She replied with a question.

"You\'re not wrong. It\'s just that I\'d have preferred to have understood some of this ahead of time so I could be better prepared."

"There\'s a lot of things we all prefer in life Sammy-boy but that doesn\'t mean we are guaranteed to get them." Although Lena\'s voice was level when she said this, he didn\'t miss the way that she rolled her eyes. "Now, are we going to keep bantering over this or will you prepare me something to eat?" The neutral look was back on her face and Samuel could no longer read anything from the girl sitting in front of him.

"Is there anything in particular that you like to eat?" He asked.

"I\'m not particularly picky as long as the flavor is good and nothing is burnt. I\'ll trust your discernment as to what you think would be good and we can discuss afterwards if there\'s anything I don\'t like or would prefer." Samuel somehow didn\'t feel like that was true, but he was going to try taking her word for it and hope he didn\'t end up regretting that decision.

"Alright then. Give me a few minutes and I well see what I can come up with." He told her as he got ready to leave in hopes of minding the kitchen and getting breakfast over with.

"I\'ll be counting on you Chickadee so don\'t take too long." Samuel was already starting to feel once again that it was going to be a very long week for him.
